What is baptism?
Baptism is an important step in following Jesus in showing our obedience to him and takes place after making the decision to follow Jesus. It also shows others that we have personally trusted Jesus and placed our faith in him. Baptism takes place by immersion because Jesus was baptized that way, and we see every baptism in the Bible take place that way as well. It best symbolizes a burial and resurrection as seen in Romans 6:1-11.

Salvation
MADE NEW!
Christian baptism illustrates the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. At the same time, it also illustrates our death to sin and new life in Christ. It is not the water that makes us new - only JESUS!
Being submerged in the water represents death to sin, and emerging from the water represents the cleansed, holy life that follows salvation. As the sinner confesses the Lord Jesus, that person dies to sin (Romans 6:11) and is raised to new life (Colossians 2:12).
"FOR WE DIED AND WERE BURIED WITH CHRIST BY BAPTISM.
AND JUST AS CHRIST WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD BY THE GLORIOUS POWER OF THE FATHER, NOW WE ALSO MAY LIVE NEW LIVES."
